Magaly Gamarra is an integrative educator with 19 years of experience, who is passionate about implementing an educational model that organically nourishes the “whole child” by emphasizing social and emotional learning combined with rigorous academics. As an enthusiastic mentor to other educators, Ms. Gamarra has extensive diverse experience and finds immeasurable joy in empowering teachers. She leads educators by example. Ms. Gamarra utilizes strategies that foster effective communication and collaboration among educators, children, and their families. She identifies how to best connect and encourage children to engage in activities they may not initially show interest in. These approaches help maximize teaching and learning opportunities to encourage desirable behaviors in children while making them feel valued and confident about themselves.

Ms. Gamarra also supports teachers and parents in recognizing and capitalizing on opportunities to help their children build the skills and discipline they’ll need to succeed. She does this by tapping into everyday practical teachable moments with a keen interest in inspiring a thirst for curiosity, creativity, innovation, understanding, and compassion. In Ms. Gamarra’s opinion, social and emotional knowledge is so much more than just learning basic skills. It is harnessing important multifaceted skills and applying them to real-life situations. This comprehensive approach is foundational in the formation of a child’s character, maturity, and future development. Her background enables her to apply an interdisciplinary educational model that teaches and prepares children with the tools and resources necessary to adapt and thrive in a modern and complex world. In this era of challenging times, it is even more crucial that children develop skills in emotional intelligence, adaptability, and paying it forward with service towards others. Ms. Gamarra embraces a love of life-long learning and promotes a well-rounded education that works in partnership with educators and families to develop children to their fullest potential.

Ms. Gamarra worked for 10 years at an elite Montessori school in Manhattan, serving in multiple roles including teacher, administrator, and teacher trainer. Lara is a passionate and devoted early childhood educator who has worked with children for decades. From her time as an undergraduate student teaching in the Washington D.C. public school system to nearly 20 years later teaching in the New York City public and private school sectors, her commitment to education, learning, and supporting students of various ages have been unwavering.

In her work with children, ranging in age from 2 to 7, she has designed and implemented early childhood curricula in both the Reggio Emilia and Montessori philosophies. While utilizing different methodologies, both educational approaches are similar in providing a nurturing and child-centered environment that fosters independence and self-regulation. Both philosophies also promote hands-on learning and collaborative play. They are aligned in their utilization of the environment as a source of essential learning believing that children absorb knowledge from their surroundings and

self-direct their education through exploration. Lara's teaching philosophy has been grounded in the belief that social-emotional education is the foundation for successful academic learning and nurtures the whole child. She prioritizes an enriching environment with a balance of flexibility within the structure, within which each child feels seen, appreciated, and valued for who they are as individuals.

Lara’s commitment to children has been demonstrated both within and outside of the classroom. In her spare time, she has trained and worked in New York City as a volunteer for local literacy programs aimed at supporting underprivileged children and giving them access to appropriate reading materials. She also volunteered at Cabrini Hospice, focusing on the care and well-being of pediatric patients. She has developed and maintained many of the relationships she has established in her work with her past students and their families.

Lara graduated from The George Washington University with a BA in psychology and went on to earn a Master’s degree in early childhood education from Metropolitan College of New York. She has received training in both First Aid and CPR. She is currently completing a course in Navigating Anxiety in Children: Meeting Stress with Inner Strength through the Omega Institute. Lara was born and raised in New York City where she currently lives with her sweet and friendly dog, Buddy, while her son, Oliver, is away at university. In her free time, she enjoys reading, nature, meditation, and spending time with family and friends.
